Editorial Policy

To fulfill the objectives set forth in the UA Press Regulations, the following general principles of editorial policy must be followed:

1st — UA Press' vision is to establish itself as a leading publisher in the academic world.

2nd — UA Press' mission is to promote the creation, development, and dissemination of knowledge in various fields of knowledge, through the publication of content in the most appropriate formats.

3rd — UA Press' activity should develop in the cultural, technical, artistic, scientific, and pedagogical-didactic fields.

4th — UA Press aims to publish works that present added value of a cultural, technical, artistic, scientific, and pedagogical-didactic nature and that are aligned with its editorial objectives.

5th — Among the works to be published, all periodical publications based at the Aveiro University should be progressively included, without prejudice to their own scientific management.

6th — Whenever possible, priority will be given to works of a pedagogical-didactic nature, particularly manuals for university and polytechnic teaching.

7th — The works to be published will have distinctive and identifying elements, and each will have its own layout, either for the cover or the interior, depending on the series or collection in which it is included.

8th — The works to be published may originate from institutional and individual proposals, from invitations to authors to write texts on relevant topics, or from public requests for the presentation of works.

9th — The publication of translations of relevant works not yet published or requiring revision may also be considered.

10th — Publications in Portuguese will be encouraged, without prejudice to bilingual editions
or editions in foreign languages, taking into consideration the author and the target audience.

11th — Dissertations and theses will not be accepted for publication.

12th — All first editions, with the exception of institutional editions, will mandatorily undergo a peer review process carried out by a minimum of two specialists of recognized competence in the specific area, at least one of whom is external to the UA.

13th — The decision on re-editions and/or reprints will be made by the Coordinating Committee, taking into account existing frameworks.

14th — UA Press publications will prioritize open access publications. However,
there may be print editions with a cover price that, taking into account the
specific conditions of the markets in which they are placed, should contribute to making the
edition profitable.

15th — UA Press will seek the best form of distribution and marketing, using,
as far as possible, the existing structures at the University of Aveiro, but seeking
others that prove suitable, namely through the establishment of partnerships.

16th — UA Press will seek to have an active policy of establishing publishing protocols with other university or commercial publishers or with other interested entities,
with the aim of monetizing the publication and improving its presence in target markets.

17th — UA Press will maintain an updated catalog of publications available for sale and will seek its optimization through partnerships, particularly within the scope of the Portuguese Association of Higher Education Publishers.

18th — UA Press will seek to integrate with associations that promote university publishing and defend its strategic objectives with policymakers, academics, and economics on a national and European scale.
