Synopsis

This volume is the result of a collaboration between researchers from the University of Aveiro and the State University of Goiás and proposes a critical reflection on communication, culture, and society in the 21st century. Articulating themes such as academic internationalization, digital literacies, information exclusion, technological transformation, educational practices, power relations, and the impact of artificial intelligence on writing, the different interdisciplinary contributions offer a reading that questions, expands, and renews understandings about the relationship between language, technology, and social life in a global, complex, and constantly changing world.

Author Biographies

Anabela Valente Simões

Anabela Valente Simões is a Coordinating Professor at the University of Aveiro, where she teaches in the areas of languages ​​for specific purposes, intercultural communication, and business communication. She holds a PhD in Culture from the University of Aveiro and a Master's degree in Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture from the University of Coimbra. Her research interests lie in the areas of foreign language teaching/learning, transversal skills development, intercultural communication, and representations of collective memory and identity.

Olira Saraiva Rodrigues

Olira Saraiva Rodrigues holds a Bachelor's degree in Letters from the State University of Goiás (UEG), a Master's degree in Education from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás (PUC-Goiás), and a PhD in Art and Visual Culture from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG). She completed postdoctoral studies in Cultural Studies at the Advanced Program in Contemporary Culture at the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Department of Communication and Information Sciences at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, Portugal. She leads the research group Literacies, Culture, Connectivity and Education (LECCE/CNPq) and is a professor in the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Education, Language and Technologies at the State University of Goiás (PPG-IELT/UEG). Her research focuses on Digital Culture, Artificial Intelligence, Literacies, and Art.

Gillian Owen Moreira

Gillian Moreira is an Assistant Professor (retired) at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, and an integrated member of the Centre for Languages, Literatures and Cultures at this university, where she coordinates the Globalization and Identities subgroup of the Entre Culturas group. Her research has focused on language education and language policies, European integration, and issues of interculturality and identity, particularly in contexts of personal and professional mobility, including higher education. Currently, her research interests focus on the crisis of interculturality in the digital age and populist extremisms.

Carla Conti de Freitas

Carla Conti de Freitas is a Professor at the State University of Goiás, where she teaches in the Pedagogy course and the Master's program in Education (PPGE/UEG Inhumas). She holds a Master's degree in Letters and Linguistics and a PhD in Public Policies, Strategies and Development. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Communication and Information Sciences of the Faculty of Letters at the University of Porto in Portugal. She participates in the research group on Language Teacher Training (GEFOPLE-UEG/CNPq); the National Literacy Project: Language, Culture, Education and Technology (USP/CNPq); and LECCE - Literacy, Culture, Connectivity and Education (UEG/CNPq). A speaker and author of national and international publications, she dedicates herself to topics related to human rights education and digital education in teacher training.
