A Influência da Cultura Chinesa na Europa
Synopsis
The work The Influence of Chinese Culture in Europe examines the formation, transformation, and persistence of images of China in the European imagination, taking as its analytical axis two fundamental theoretical currents: Orientalism and cultural relativism. Based on the classic interpretations of Edward Said and important Chinese academics, the book demonstrates how the "Orient" was historically constructed as the "other"—an ideological representation shaped by Western discursive power—and how this construction has conditioned, throughout the centuries, the European perception of China.
From this framework, the authors analyze the changes that occurred in the post-Cold War period, the global repositioning of the Orient, and the growing relevance of China in contemporary cultural dialogues. Combining historical analysis, cultural criticism, and theoretical reflection, the work offers a rigorous reading of the diffusion of Chinese culture in Europe and the evolution of European images of China in a context of profound transformation of the international order.
